Lessons From King Solomon - The Richest Man That Ever Lived

By Boniface Ngahu.
I have just come across a book titled The Richest Man Who Ever Lived- King Solomon’s Secrets to Success, Wealth and Happiness.

The author Steven Scott explains how he lost nine jobs in six years until his friend advised that he read Proverbs which was inspired by Solomon, one chapter a day in 31 days.

After applying the lessons, he converted from a below average income-earner to a multimillionaire. Remember Solomon is the man who wished for wisdom which granted him all the other great things in life. In
other words, if you seek only wisdom in 2012, all the other resolutions will be granted.

One of the reasons I have picked the subject of wisdom today is that it resonates well with some of the ideas from the past ‘Market Talk’ articles.

In one of them, we identified going against the grain or contrarian thinking as one of the keys to success in business and life.

In the book under review, the author urges aiming at being one in a thousand who achieve incredible results.

Let’s read Proverbs 22:29: “Do you see a man diligent in his business?

He shall stand before the Kings”. The phrase suggests diligence as a key quality in standing out and being sought after. Diligence is about being persistent and hard working (read smart working) to achieve the desired results.

The book of Proverbs also suggests that those who are not diligent will be subjected to forced labour and that the one who tills his land will be satisfied with bread. The law of the farm applies in that you reap what you planted.

The book also suggests the need to have a clear vision, quoting one of the proverbs, ‘Where is no vision, people perish.’

So, create a vision for the year and beyond, cut out images from magazines and stick them on a vision board at home or have an assortment of photos of what you want to achieve in your phone camera, keep looking at the images until you get what you want. It works.

One shortfall to avoid is procrastination. In one of the proverbs Solomon states that, “Hope deferred make the heart sick but desire fulfilled is the tree of life”.

By tree of life it means that if you act on your vision, you will create a whole eco-system that will support your intentions to perpetuity. The book also quotes the ways of the ants which I have written about in the past. Read Proverbs.

I recently learnt that to expand your brain power one of the most powerful things is to seek new experiences such as visiting a new place, relating to new people and learning a new language.

Eating fish also has brain benefits and this may explain why our mothers used to feed us on a little bit more of cod Liver oil just before exams, Omega 3 oils are also found in some nuts.

Research suggests that running your brain through physical exercises can also result in better results, experiencing new smells and tastes also works.

Listening to Mozart has also been known to increase your brain power. Laugh, play with passion, avoid fats and build a brain trust by surrounding yourself with inspiring people.

Too much alcohol was found to kill brain cells in mice while a little bit was good for their brain. So be like Solomon and seek wisdom in 2012 and all else will be granted.
