There is one thing I have noted about the truly successful
and happy people in life; I am not talking about the likes of Warren Buffett, Carlos
Slim or Richard Branson. Don’t get me wrong, I really admire these people and
as matter of fact, I have Richard Branson as my role model. But I am not sure
whether these chaps know true peace and happiness. They seem, to me, like they
are always fighting to maintain their names on the first position of the “Top
Ten Richest People in the World” list when Forbes Magazine next publishes it.
There are those people that may not have made it to the lime
light, unnoticeable by the media but have had great success and are definitely very
happy. These people are actually changing the world in ways greater than most
of us can fathom but only those whose world has changed because of the heroic
deeds of these people.
One story that tells of this one thing about true success
and happiness is that of Francis Muchemi and Dorothy Auma, a couple from
Western Kenya. The couple started out small with a dairy business, making yoghurt
for the local markets. Business picked well and they soon were enjoying great
proceeds from it. To cut the long story short, instead of these couple thinking
of using the proceeds to expand the business and amass more wealth, they
thought about the street children that loitered in the streets of Bungoma town.
Francis and Dorothy used the proceeds of their dairy business
to set up a children’s home, Nabongo School for orphaned children. Their
efforts and good will were soon rewarded and today, the couple runs a high
flying teacher training institution that has trampled even the perennial higher
education giants of the country, all from a small children’s home born out of
the will
to help the less privileged.

count them... These are people we can no doubt say they had a successful and
very fulfilling life. They all put their names on the books of history because
of this one thing; the powerful inner drive to help the less privileged.
